Spain, in the Iberian Peninsula, is Europe's second largest country. Separated from France to the north by the Pyrenees and to the west
it borders Portugal as well as having a nothern coastline onto the Atlantic Ocean, including the often tempestuous Bay of Biscay.
Spain has en extensive Mediterranean coastline which runs all the way down from the French border in the north right down to
Gibraltar and beyond, where it joins the Atlantic Ocean. The Balearic Islands of Majorca, Ibiza, Menorca and Formentor also belong to
Spain as do the Canary Islands, in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of northern Africa. The 7 Canary Islands include Tenerife,
Grand Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Hierro, La Palma and Gomera. Spain's landscape varies greatly from lush green areas,
to snow covered mountains, to desert-like zones, to volcanic. Accordingly the climate also varies from sub-tropical to moderate.
Spain is divided into 17 self-governing autonomous regions. Althoug Spanish (Castellano) is the official language of Spain, there are other regional languages which have taken over as the first language and which can present a problem to foreigners and especially to their school children as lessons are also taught in the "alternative" language.
The whole of Spain has a good communications network with road, rail and air links serving all areas. Needless to say, most of the foreigners
who have invested in property in Spain have done so along the coastal areas and in some areas there are particularly high concentrations of ex-pats, boosted by the many holiday makers.

As Spanish property prices have rocketed, many foreigners wanting to settle in Spain and buy a property are going
for properties slightly inland. During 2007 the property market in Spain in general flattened
and it is possible to pick up some attractive villa and apartment bargains with the possibility of even more becoming available
in the near future as property developers see properties lying empty and foreigners wishing to sell up
realise that they are, in some cases, going to have to accept less for their lovely villa than they paid for the property.
For the foreseeable future, it is definitely a buyers' market in Spain.
