Meaning Coast of Light, Costa de la Luz is in the far south of Spain and stretches from Gibraltar right along to the border with the Algarve region of Portugal and lies within the autonomous region of Andalucia. Its long sandy and dune backed beaches face on to the Atlantic Ocean and not the Mediterranean. Tarifa, at the Gibraltar end of the coast is famous for its windsurfing. This coast is relatively uncommercialised in comparison with the some of the other Spanish Costas, such as the Costel del Sol or Costa Blanca and it is still possible to find some unspoiled spots. It is in this region where can be found the well known equestrian and dressage schools as well as the sherry producing vineyards. As well as good motorway links, access is easy via the airports in Gibraltar, Seville and Cadiz as well as from Faro Airport in Portugal.
