The Costa Brava is Spain’s most northerly Mediterranean coast, stretching from the French border, to the north, to just above Barcelona. It is a varied coastline with a mixture of rocky coves with a backdrop of rugged cliffs to wide sandy beaches, small villages and lively resorts. It is home to Europe’s largest marina and a great many water sports are available in the area. The Costa Brava towns are easily reached by air from Perpignan Airport in France, and Gerona and Barcelona airports, as well as by a toll motorway which runs just inland from the coast. Winter sports are also easily accessible for those living on the Costa Brava, with the ski resorts of the Pyrenees just a short drive away, as is tax free Andorra. The villages and towns of the Costa Brava have been popular with northern Europeans for many years.
